Dermatologists and skin care experts practicing at Family Medical Center in Mattoon are offering free cancer screenings from 8 am to 7 pm on Wednesday, July 24. The new dermatology clinic, which opened July 8, is located at 200 Richmond Ave., Mattoon.
The free screenings are provided through the American Academy of Dermatology and will give people an opportunity to have a “spot check” of an area on the skin they have a concern about. No appointment is necessary.
Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer, with more than three million skin cancers diagnosed annually in some two million people in the United States. More new cases of skin cancer are diagnosed each year than the combined totals of breast, prostate, lung and colon cancers. Melanoma is the most common form of cancer for young adults 25 to 29 years old. Anyone can develop skin cancer, regardless of skin color or general health. Many can be easily treated when detected early.
The dermatology clinic is staffed by board certified dermatologist Doug Leone, MD, and Adrienne Schupbach, MD, as well as nurse practitioner Tracy Arnold, APN. The clinic offers a wide range of treatments for people with skin disorders ranging from acne and psoriasis to cutting edge skin cancer screening and treatment. It also offers cosmetic services.
