The 28th annual Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Foundation golf benefit experienced a record-setting year, reaching net proceeds of nearly $60,000 and attracting 262 golfers.
Funds raised at the June 9th event at Meadowview Golf Course will support the Foundation’s current initiative: “Life . . . Nothing Beats It,” a capital campaign to raise funds for the cardiology expansion project at Sarah Bush Lincoln that will include a new Heart Center and 21 new private patient rooms.
“We are extremely grateful for the generosity of our sponsors and the enthusiasm of our golfers,” said Kim Lockart, special events officer for the Foundation. “Each year we have tremendous support for our events at Sarah Bush Lincoln. This year, we introduced new challenges for our golfers and it was certainly exciting to set a record on funds raised for this outing.” Lockart extended a special thank you to all sponsors including title sponsors: BSA Life Structures, Cerner, Coles-Moultrie Electric Cooperative and Co-Bank; First Mid-Illinois Bank & Trust, Hinshaw & Culbertson, and McCarthy Building Companies, Inc.
A $200 cash prize was awarded to the top teams in each flight with Dr. Dominic Perrino, John Hutti, Seth Dixon, and Zach Morgan winning the morning round and the Collection Professionals team that included Scott Edwards, Greg Himelick, Mike McNeely and Scott Pelican winning the afternoon round.
New this year was a long drive challenge in which Josh Wilson won a trip to Pebble Beach including airfare, three rounds of golf and a two-night stay valued at $5,000. During the challenge, players could make a donation to the Heart Center to have Mick Yelovich, eight-time long drive world championship qualifier, hit their tee shot. Wilson won the trip by chipping the ball in the cup on the second shot of the par-5 hole. Yelovich, who represents Charity Golf International, generated an additional $3,500 in donations for the Heart Center during the event.
A putting challenge was also offered for the first time this year, with Calvin Schultz winning a three-night stay at the new Hampton Inn & Suites in the Wisconsin Dells donated K&S Hospitality, Ken and Nancy Keating and Jim and Laura Severson.
Prizes were awarded to winners on 15 of the 18 holes. Hole winners and prizes were: Matt Bennett, Cardinals tickets, Coleman cooler, bag chairs and more; Ryan Pine, French Lick Resort golf package; Sam Adair, Chicago Bulls tickets, Justin Martin, Kirkwood National golf package; Alex Pickens, Nascar tickets with pit pass; Chuck Card, iWatch Sport watch; Chris Adams, YETI Hopper Cooler and assorted YETI products; Jeremy Morton, golf package; Scott Edwards, Cardinal baseball tickets; Doug Abolt, seven-day, six-night vacation package; Seth Reedy, Cardinals baseball tickets; Luke Kirby, wine cooler and wine; Tom Michael, $500 cash; and Josh Bullock, Cardinal baseball tickets. Twenty-six additional prizes, ranging in value from $100 to $600, were awarded to golfers in a random drawing.
There were three hole-in-one challenges with the chance to win a RTV Kubota, sponsored by Niemeyer Kubota; a three-year lease on a Cadillac CT6 sponsored by Diepholz Chevrolet; and a $10,000 cash prize sponsored by First Neighbor Bank. No one won any of the hole-in-one challenges.
Stacey Maulding won the raffle drawing, winning a seven day/six night trip to Maui, Hawaii. “Thank you to Doug & Tracey McCord for generously donating the use of their Maui home,” Lockart added.
