Family Worship Center in Mattoon recently donated a van load of goodies and supplies for people fighting cancer at Sarah Bush Lincoln’s Regional Cancer Center. The church sponsored a giving drive which generated 15 boxes filled with an array of cleaning supplies, toiletries and non-perishable food items. In addition, the church donated Christmas ham gift certificates from Mark’s My Store and gas and restaurant gift cards to help make the holidays brighter for people going through treatment.
“Cancer touches so many lives – whether it’s a friend, a neighbor or a family member. This is just our way of helping those who may be struggling during the holidays,” Church Administrative Assistant Marsha Figgins said. Figgins spearheaded the giving drive with the support of Family Worship Center Pastor Brad Brown and the congregation. “I lost my husband to cancer 15 years ago and I lost my father to leukemia so this is a passion of mine,” she added.
Regional Cancer Center nurse Gail Cook, RN, was especially grateful for the donation of cleaning supplies for those who struggle to make ends meet while undergoing treatment. Figgins (left) and Cook are pictured with some of the supplies.
