The Mattoon and Charleston high school volleyball teams recently donated $3,779 to the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Foundation, to benefit the Regional Cancer Center. The teams’ donation will be used to help people who are unable to pay for items associated with their care while undergoing chemotherapy and/or radiation.
The teams raised funds through their annual ‘Volley for a Cure’ game, and at the game, they presented the check to Kim Lockart, SBL Health Foundation Special Events Officer. Since 2013, the teams have donated more than $32,000 to assist patients in the Regional Cancer Center.
Kayla Quick, Mattoon High School head volleyball coach, said her team is always happy to help people who receive care at the Regional Cancer Center. “This year, we decided to branch out a little bit and allow fans to choose the type of cancer that they wanted to support,” she said. “We had tons of individuals supporting all types of fighters this year, and we could not be more excited.”
Lockart said she is thankful for the continued support from the volleyball teams. “It’s inspiring how much help these local teams have garnered for people receiving treatment at the Regional Cancer Center,” she said. “We’re grateful to have such amazing support from our community.”
