Coles-Moultrie Electric Cooperative (CMEC) recently donated $5,000 to the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Foundation, with a matching gift from Co-Bank, a national cooperative bank serving CMEC. The $10,000 donation will support SBL’s Peace Meal Senior Nutrition Program.
“We’re so appreciative of Coles-Moultrie’s generous donation that helps us provide this valuable service across East Central Illinois,” SBL Health Foundation Director Amy Card said. “CMEC is such a tremendous partner and its donations over the years, including those to our hospice house and children’s dental bus, have helped so many in need throughout our community. We’re so grateful!”
SBL’s Peace Meal Senior Nutrition Program provides home-delivered and congregate meals to seniors in Coles, Clark, Cumberland, Douglas, Edgar, Moultrie and Shelby counties. Peace Meal provides 216,000 nutritious meals annually to nearly 2,000 senior residents across the region, many who would otherwise go without. In addition to fresh meals, Peace Meal also provides socialization for those who live alone.
“Often, the person delivering Peace Meal is the only contact a client may have all day so the delivery also serves as a wellness check,” explained Peace Meal Program Director Barbra Wylie. “If the delivery driver finds the senior requires medical attention, emergency personnel and/or family members, some who live far away, are contacted.” Peace Meal also offers meals at congregate sites, offering added socialization for clients.
“Our mission is to help people in our area receive quality meals, so it’s wonderful to receive assistance from others in the community who want to support our goals,” Wylie added.
